“Youth should be the center of a community delivering the values of harmony and mutual understanding.”

A letter from a Ukrainian youth leader

The Youth NGO, “Modern Format” in Ukraine, aims to educate youth by developing their skills and ideas with modern thinking, technology and methods to give youth the opportunity to meet their full potential. The main areas of its activities are: democracy and human rights, media; regional development, and CSO support. Below is a message from Zhanna Solovyva Head of the Board of the Youth NGO “Modern Format”.

Maidan, occupation of the Crimea, the war in the East of Ukraine and all the events which took place during the last several years and still go on today, had a significant impact on Ukrainian people and the communities. A great number of forced immigrants from eastern Ukraine and the occupied Crimea have integrated into the society.

Nowadays the problem of cooperation and integration of the displaced people into communities is especially problematic as well as the interaction of people with different cultural, religious, and historical views. The whole Ukrainian society and the communities at the local level should learn how to respect each other and live under conditions of multicultural tolerance.

It’s necessary for community members to learn how to respect each other and to cooperate in spite of cultural, historical, religious and nationality differences. It is important for the displaced people to feel themselves as a part of a community, in which territory they are living in. The community leaders should acknowledge, respect and involve representatives of those “new communities” and different cultures, who will provide lasting benefits for all of us. They have to understand the consequences of their actions and should be socially responsible.

Young people are the most progressive in society; they quickly adapt under new circumstances, accept new information and are best motivated for change inside of their communities. Cultural, religious and political diversity issues are not so problematic for the young representatives of the communities. It is the young people, active members of their communities, who can become the AGENTS able to facilitate understanding within communities, not only in Ukraine, but all over the world.

I believe that the active participation of young people in the processes of making decisions at different levels can be the driving force of social change and community development.

Zhanna Solovyva

Youth NGO “Modern Format”

We certainly realize once more the importance of the role of youth in society by indirectly experiencing the reality in Ukraine. By working together with Modern Format team, IPYG hopes to encourage Ukrainian youth more and more to be the messengers of peace.

Child Rights Activist from ECPAT Indonesia

JUN 2017

"Selamat Pag. My name is Annisa Fitri Noviana. I am a Child Rights Activist from ECPAT Indonesia. I attended the peace summit last year in South Korea organized by HWPL. Since 2015 I was also appointed as a Publicity Ambassador of HWPL and have done many peace works in Indonesia together with HWPL.

I am honored to give a congratulatory message for the 4th commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace. I appreciate all the activities and movements of HWPL, especially Chairman Lee’s effort to make a world of peace. Indonesia has so many islands and cultures as we have 34 provinces. We’ve gone [through] so many hardships such as war and conflict in past years. Nowadays, our country is still experiencing many troubles caused by conflict, radicalism, terrorism, etc. Children and young people are dying because of this. We really appreciate and support the activities and efforts of HWPL in relation to peacebuilding and cessation of war in this world. I wish that the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) established by HWPL continues to be advocated worldwide and developed into a legally binding document.

Myself as a Publicity Ambassador of HWPL, I will also do my best to participate and also support the activities of HWPL in relation to the promotion of peace and cessation of war in Indonesia. I wish that HWPL will keep on good track with peace work, and success to achieve world peace."

“Understanding the dynamics of conflict is the best way of learning how to create a more peaceful society.”

MAY 2017

A letter from a Peace Messenger of France

The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) is a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It has worked with many Catholic students in activities concerning peace and social issues. Below is the message of peace from Edouard Pihewa Karoue, International President of the IMCS.

Today, IMCS is made up of around 3,000,000 Catholic students who reflect upon social issues, using Catholic social teaching. IMCS believes that the spirit of openness for friendship with our diverse society is the only way to build a peaceful world where one can care for people and their dignity.

If there is something I have to say, it is to let all of us realize that peace is not an autonomous reality. When we talk about a real peace, we talk about solidarity, human dignity, social justice, equality, respect of human rights, intercultural (faith) dialogue, tolerance, etc. Peace doesn’t come from the quantity of speeches for peace that we make. It comes from the care we have for every human being.

Understanding the dynamics of conflict is the best way of learning how to create a more peaceful society. I am sure that a life of simplicity, respect, truth, justice, love and forgiveness are the central keys to building peace.

We should realizing that “goods” and “cultural differences” (including religion) are two key elements that animate conflicts. These elements should help us to complete an examination of conscience every day. I’m convinced that each one of us has to make a supplementary effort to create a more peaceful community where we live. Being peaceful is not “being silent in order not to offend others”. It is more to challenge ourselves to meet, understand, and learn from others and welcome them and their realities without judging them. It is also a challenging task for us all to look for the common good in all of our small actions and improve our values of sharing.

The younger generations have a central role to play in this because the older generations are already departing. They can build a new society by sharing all the good human values by being lights within their families and friends. I will not invite my fellow young people to build peace. I invite all of us (myself included) to be just, truthful, in solidarity with and welcome to others.

Edouard Pihewa KAROUE

International Movement of Catholic Students

The sincere letter of Edouard Pihewa Karoue ignites peace in the hearts of the IPYG youths. This year, the IPYG will communicate closely with French youth and work together for the better tomorrow as future decision-makers.

We must not forget the Value of Peace

MAR 2017

A Letter from a Peace Messenger of Romania

IPYG met Razvan Patcas, Former President of Euroavia Cluj-Napoca. He participated in the 2nd Annual commemoration of the World Alliance of Religion’s Peace (WARP) Summit as a peace messenger. He has a dedication and commitment towards peace. He knows that HWPL and IPYG have been making continuous effort to achieve peace. He appreciates the dedicated support of IPYG and looks forward to working with us. Let us see what he would like to say to IPYG.

Dear. IPYG

It was a great pleasure for me to take part a couple of weeks ago at an event on a topic about peace. Something, I rarely hear about in Romania... peace. I think people here seem to forget about it. As time passes by, the great feeling of living in a quite peaceful environment tends to become more and more embedded into our daily life.

I was born in a period of peace and so were my parents. However, it is not usual for all people. As soon as you start to think about peace further than your daily life and the circle of people that you meet each day and start to observe the situation on our little blue planet, you cannot forget about other fellow humans that lost their peace or are fighting for it. These are all important reasons for which we have to be concerned and we have to do something to change the situation for the better.

Peace is a great thing to have and I am grateful for it and for all the benefits that come with it. This is why I believe that we have to embrace it more. I think we need to show the impact that peace has over our world and to place it into our culture, our state of mind and our way of doing politics.

I think it is the only way forward for a better future, for tighter relations among humankind and for our development as better people. I wish to help HWPL and world peace as much as I can. Of course, it can be a long process to take form but we have to seek peace continuously!

Razvan Patcas

Euroavia Cluj-Napoca

Former President

We hope that all events would be proceeding well and peace can be achieved as soon as possible in Romania through the peace activities of Razvan Patcas and youth in Romania. As Razvan said, “I wish to help HWPL and world peace as much as I can”, we, IPYG, will try to make peace with Razvan and Romanian youth doing many peace activities.

Peace Message

FEB 2017

From. Oman TargetPhotography Studio

Whatever that extremism and intolerance named, they are seeds that the soil of Oman will reject it.

From. Uganda Suubi Nursery and Primary school

Hate and anger are never the solution to fix any problem. But love and forgiveness are. So I think we, the youth of the future, should be focusing more on ways of reaching each other with more love to achieve world peace. And once again, I believe social media is one of the best platforms. If we use it correctly it will help so much to achieve this goal. For example, I would never have heard about IPYG if it wasn’t for Facebook!

A Letter from a Peace Messenger in the Philippines

JAN 2017

IPYG met Raxiey Adolfo, Co-founder of International Youth United and a member of IPYG. He held an event ‘The Surigao Peace Caravan’ three times in January. He has a dedication and commitment for peace. He thinks that young people can work for peace on their own with the help of IPYG’s guidance. He knows that HWPL and IPYG have been making constant efforts to achieve peace. He appreciates the dedicated support of IPYG and looks forward to working with us.

I always wanted to work for the benefit of the young people, because I believe that if we see that the world we are living in right now is a mess, the next generation should not experience this situation but rather live in a world where they can play without limit, study in schools without threat of violence and live happily like the stories we see on fiction movies. I know it will not be easy, but it’s never impossible. Working to develop the world we live in starts from us young people and it will emanate from us who will lead the world in the future.

Maybe there are a lot of challenges along our way but there are many things that will make us a better messenger of peace.  It should not be the reason to malign our commitment and hopes for a better world.

If you want a place where you can live peacefully, start the struggle now! Never wait for others to do it for you. You should start it by yourself to  get others on board with you. Start it with yourself and influence others to work for peace! Promise, it works with me!

Raxiey Adolfo

International Youth United

We hope that all the events would proceed well and that peace can be achieved as soon as possible in the Philippines through the peace activities of Mr. Raxiey Adolfo who wrote this letter to IPYG. He got inspired when a member of IPYG said that “we should not stop working unless there's already peace in this world”. Likewise, let’s try to work together for peace in the world.

Peace Culture: A Global Need

NOV 2016

A letter from a peace messenger from Indonesia

IPYG met Zainul Fuad, Dean of the Islamic State University (UIN) North Sumatra and a member of IPYG. He participated in the 2nd Annual commemoration of the World Alliance of Religion’s Peace (WARP) Summit as a peace messenger. He truly has a mind for peace and will be processed with the Education Program and Peace Seminar in December 2016. He knows that HWPL and IPYG have been working on peace activities for world peace, and that HWPL and IPYG have always made an effort to achieve peace. Now, let us see read what he would like to say to the IPYG of the world.

Dear. IPYG of the world

As one of the participants of the last 2nd Annual commemoration of World Alliance of Religion’s Peace (WARP) Summit, my concern in life is only peace, and I was so impressed and touched by the chairman of HWPL, Mr. Man Hee Lee through this summit. It’s an honor to be part of HWPL members, the family of peace, to work for peace together as one and I would also like to express my intention to cooperate with IPYG in building world peace. The current situation in Indonesia regarding interreligious relations is quite precarious, and the political issues have also made social relations fragile. This compounded by the issue of religious blasphemy for a certain political purpose.

In this situation, I feel that spreading a culture of peace is the most important work of the world, including Indonesia which struggles to find solutions to the potential appearance of interreligious conflicts. Through our organization CENTER FOR PEACE STUDIES, we would like to organize the Education Program and a Peace Seminar to raise awareness toward peace and learn how important peace is for the youth. In December 2016, the event will be attended by the representatives of students from various universities in North Sumatra.

For this purpose, I would be very grateful if the INTERNATIONAL PEACE YOUTH GROUP (IPYG) could cooperate and help us facilitate the success of this program so as for it to be one of the ways to spread peace in Indonesia. I do believe peace can be achieved as the chairman of HWPL says, and I support HWPL and IPYG.

Zainul Fuad

Islamic State University (UIN) North Sumatra

We hope that the events planned would be successful and that peace may be achieved as soon as possible in Indonesia through the peace activities of Mr. Zainul Fuad who wrote this letter to IPYG. We would like to say to the peace advocates who read this article. “Let’s try to achieve peace together as one”
